IEEE ICCC 2023 Workshop on

Optical Wireless Communications for 6G, WLANs and Beyond

Dalian, China|10-12 August 2023

Scope:

The explosive growth of digital applications in our community, business, and industry have simulated an increasing demand of data traffic with heterogeneous user requirements. To support this new trend, next generation communication networks must provide higher data rate, lower latency, and ubiquitous connectivity. Among many others, optical wireless communication (OWC) systems are being actively developed to reap the combined benefits of advanced optical and wireless technologies. With the inherent advantages, such as ultra-high bandwidth, long communication distance, and strong data privacy, optical wireless systems are widely recognized as an essential building block of the future communication network infrastructure, and thus will play an indispensable role in network operations for 6G, WLANs, AR/VR, and beyond.

There have been tremendous advances in OWC and network systems in recent years. Terahertz communications, holographic representation, optical meta-materials based reconfigurable intelligent surface for beamforming, are a few examples of advanced technologies towards fulfilling future-generation multi-disciplinary applications. Whilst these advances are drastically challenging the legacy OWC theory and practice, there is a strong need for timely exchanges of recent findings in the academia and new technological requirements in the industry. Against the above background, this workshop aims for creating an excellent platform to allow rapid dissemination of the latest research results on OWC, from theoretical analysis, numerical evaluations, to real experiments, and to testbed and product trials. As a second major objective, we seek to foster deeper and wider collaborations, nationally and internationally, to significantly push forward the forefront of the ongoing B5G/6G research.

Topics:

This OWC workshop will present the latest research and technology development endeavors, network design, as well as system implementation in the advanced fields of holographic representation, terahertz communication, visible light communication, underwater communication, and low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite connectivity.
